The Three Categories of Dressing For Men

There are three categories of dressing for men. None of them is better than the other. Each one is based on a man's level of comfort, how well he knows his body and his sense of style and adventure. It is also worth noting that the same man can achieve all three levels of dressing at any given time.
First, there is the guy for whom dressing is just a basic need. Not a lot of thought goes into it. I will call him the Basic Man.
Then there is the gentleman who, though he’s not necessarily a fashion connoisseur, does enjoy staying current in his look. Let’s call him the Current Man.
Finally we have the gentleman who enjoys fashion, has an adventurous sense of style and is not afraid to take chances. This guy is called the Daring Man.
To illustrate my point I will choose one garment, the navy sport coat, which is one of the primary items in every men's wardrobe.

Basic Man

This is the guy whose wardrobe is primarily comprised of the fundamentals. In his closet you will find the classic two button navy sport coat with traditional medium width lapel and a lose fit. This guy will feel most natural wearing it with a white dress shirt and a simple solid or striped tie, pairing the coat with gray flannel slacks and black shoes. His look is simple, elegant, and safe.

Current Man
This guy definitely has the basics covered already and updates his navy sport coat at least once a year. His coat will have a more tailored fit and shorter length, depending on the trend of the moment. He will be very comfortable wearing a pattern shirt and no tie with his navy sport coat. He will pair his jacket with either fitted chinos, jeans or trim slacks. He may even wear boots or sneakers. His look is fresh, easy, comfortable and always current

Daring Man

This gentleman's wardrobe has everything in it.  He experiments with the latest fashions and knows exactly what looks good on him. He will wear a stylish navy blazer with specific design details like pipe stitch or colored buttons. He knows how to accessorize and does it with ease. He has covered the basics, is always current and dares to set trends. His look is creative, exciting, and adventurous.

It’s all about personal style and level of comfort.
The Daring Man is no better than the Basic Man or the Current Man. And a guy who begins as Basic could potentially become Daring, if he so desires. Perhaps the Daring man will sometimes pull out his basic pieces to fit a specific environment. There are no set rules when it comes to dressing. Once a man knows his sizes, knows what looks good on him, feels comfortable in what he's wearing and has acquired a solid sense of style, the possibilities are endless and the results can be quite surprising.

Remember finding the right look doesn’t necessarily mean spending a lot of money. Any one of the looks in any of these three categories can be attained within various budgets. In the same way, having the perfect body is not a requirement for looking great. A guy in almost any physical shape can always look his best without having to break the bank doing it.
